Water and Woods Ecology, formed in 1996, is a consulting firm dedicated to serving its' clients in a cost effective and efficient manner, while working to protect natural resources, within the limits of the existing rules, regulations and laws. We have broad experience defining and minimizing impacts to aquatic and terrestrial natural resources on drain projects, in coordination with State, local and Federal Agencies and their respective staff.  Water and Woods Ecology is continually searching for unique, leading edge solutions to protecting and/or improving water quality from surface water runoff to or within County drains, while successfully obtaining permits for proposed activity.

Water and Woods Ecology has a thorough understanding of the regulatory environment and consequently how to guide clients through the process of obtaining environmental clearance and/or permits for projects of all kinds.

We have worked closely with resource agencies and have established working relationships with representatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Park Service, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and Michigan State Historic Preservation Office.

The experience of Water and Woods Ecology is broad-based within the natural and biological sciences, as applied to impact assessment and analysis of proposed projects. We have expertise in the areas of wetland ecology, water quality and watershed management, fisheries and wildlife biology, zoology, botany, aquatic entomology, soils, environmental planning, interpretive program development for parks and environmental education. This expertise has been applied to and coordinated with the disciplines of civil and environmental engineering, landscape architecture, as well as transportation and urban planning. The following types of projects are those in which Water and Woods Ecology has extensive experience.
